Gray, a 6-4 forward, had 28 points, and 13 rebounds as top-ranked Southwestern defeated Parkdale (81-75, OT) to capture the Class 4A state title. The senior also totaled 16 points, six rebounds and three assists in a win over Paint Branch (68-48) in the semifinals.

Edgewood

Wrestling

Griffin, a 6-1 guard, led Edgewood to the Class 1A state title with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists in a win over Long Reach (60-51). The senior also had 24 points, four rebounds and four steals in a semifinal win over Westmar (80-71).

Stephanie Stambaugh

Stambaugh, a 6-1 senior, scored 15 points and grabbed 13 reboundsin the Eagles state Class1A semifinal win over Mardela (47-40) and added 19 points eight rebounds and three blocks in the championship win over Northern-Garrett (53-23).

At the end of the school year, each player chosen as an Athlete of the Week will be invited to a luncheon Monday, June 9, 1997 at the Towson Sheraton, where one male and one female Athlete of the Year will be chosen.
