A Howard County man died Friday after his car struck another car, a tractor-trailer and a railroad bridge support on the Harbor Tunnel Thruway near the Eastern Avenue exit in Baltimore, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police said yesterday.

Lori Vidal, the spokeswoman, said John E. Murphy, 76, of the 9100 block of Blues Alley in Laurel may have suffered a medical problem before losing control of his 1980 Cadillac shortly before 2: 35 p.m.

Vidal said that Murphy, who was reported missing by relatives Friday, died at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and that an autopsy would be conducted.
