One year after a heart-breaking loss to eventual Class 4A champion Arundel in the state semifinals, Largo of Prince George's County left no doubt as to who the top 4A team was this season.

Largo built a 27-point halftime lead en route to a convincing 66-41 victory over Montgomery Blair in the title game yesterday at UMBC.

It was the first state title for the Lions (25-2), who were making their first appearance in the final since 1990.

"We felt extremely confident coming into the game," Largo coach Robert Blair said. "We just knew that Blair was going to have to play spectacularly to beat us."

Josie Salamon scored 17 to lead Largo. Shelly Browne's game-high 21 points paced the Blazers (24-3).

Largo, which never trailed, raced to a 26-6 lead and led by at least 16 the rest of the way.
