Sykesville councilman won't run again

March 14, 1997

Sykesville Councilman Garth Adams will not run for a second term in May.

Adams, 37, who was elected in 1993, said a recent job promotion entails more time and responsibility. The father of three also serves as an elder at Springfield Presbyterian Church and is involved in Boy Scouts.

"My wife and I both work full-time jobs, and there are only so many hours in the day," he said.

L Carolynne Adams is a member of the town planning commission.

The councilman said he was not ruling out political office in the future and plans to remain a member of the budget committee.

"My term on the council has given me a much better understanding of how the government process works," he said.

The Town Council will accept nominations for mayor and three council seats at 7 p.m. April 14 at the Town House. Each nomination must be seconded. Candidates must attend and accept their nominations at the meeting.
