Spring break

March 13, 1997|By Roch Eric Kubatko

What the Orioles did yesterday: Stopped bullying the Montreal Expos, losing in 10 innings, 4-3. Brady Anderson, Chris Hoiles and Jeff Reboulet each had two hits. The Expos had lost the previous four games against the Orioles this spring. This was the Orioles' first loss since March 1.

What the Orioles will do today: Make their second trip to Viera to play the streaking Florida Marlins. Right-hander Scott Erickson (1-1, 9.00 ERA) will make his fourth start. Nerio Rodriguez and Jesse Orosco also are scheduled to throw. The Marlins will start right-hander Mark Hutton.

You know it's spring training when: A game between the Orioles and Marlins is significant in the standings. Before yesterday, Florida led the Grapefruit League with a 13-1 record. The Orioles are second at 10-3-1. Hey, these games have to count for something.
