St. Joseph's School will close following this semester. The school, on Route 194 in Taneytown, has been hit by a lack of teachers, which is affecting the Maryland parochial system. -- The Carroll Record, March 9, 1972.

By defeating the statewide Daylight Savings measure, the House of Delegates left the "time" question up to individual towns and cities. Baltimore City has already determined that it will have daylight savings and Baltimore County will probably adopt the city's time. Westminster will vote on the issue May 7. Other towns in Carroll County may use daylight savings time, from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in September. The result is bound to be confusing. -- Democratic Advocate, March 7, 1947.

Despite the ground covered in the legislature by the Anti-Saloon League's prohibition enforcement bill, opinions still vary widely as to what is meant by certain provisions of the measure and what these provisions will really do if the bill is given final passage. Floor Leader Gambill made a strong play -- though so far as the House was concerned an ineffective one -- when he stated in his assault upon the bill that any farmer's wife who prepared a little homemade wine, or any farmer who makes cider, would become a criminal. -- Democratic Advocate, March 10, 1922.

When will wonders cease? This is a question that has been asked hundreds of times since the introduction of the Cineograph. This machine projects pictures on a screen moving ZTC just as in life. Every motion of the subject is depicted so graphically that you think you are looking at the natural object, not its photograph. This wonderful machine will exhibit in Odd Fellows Hall, this city, for one week, commencing March 15, showing all of Thomas A. Edison's latest pictures. Don't fail to see this scientific wonder, as it will interest all. -- Democratic Advocate, March 13, 1897.
