Wine of the week

1994 Beringer Meritage, Knights Valley ($7). Didn't I just recommend a Beringer wine a few weeks ago?

Yes, but this ultra-reliable winery just keeps forcing my hand with superbly made wines at excellent prices.

This dry, white blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc shows an amazingly full body and long finish for a wine in this price range. The interplay of fig, pear, pineapple, melon, herb and smoke flavors gives it remarkable complexity.

This one's worth buying by the case.
