Spring break

March 05, 1997|By Roch Eric Kubatko

What the Orioles did yesterday: Hit more home runs and won another ballgame. Pete Incaviglia and Lenny Webster went deep in the second inning, Jeffrey Hammonds did likewise in the seventh and Jeff Reboulet joined them in the eighth, as the Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-1, in Vero Beach. Starter Scott Erickson allowed one hit in two innings.

What the Orioles will do today: Face the New York Mets at Fort Lauderdale Stadium. Right-hander Rocky Coppinger will make his second start, followed by Scott Kamieniecki, Alan Mills, Arthur Rhodes, Alvie Shepherd and Chris Fussell.

You know it's spring training when: Major-league baseball is being played in Dodgertown, and the public-address announcer at Holman Stadium is calling bingo numbers after every Los Angeles batter and reminding the fans that the third inning was brought to them by a local appliance and television rental center.
