Towson ousted Blodgett scores 52

ORONO, Maine -- Junior guard Cindy Blodgett set a school and conference record with 52 points as top-seeded Maine defeated eighth-seeded Towson State, 99-57, yesterday in the quarterfinal round of the America East tournament.

Blodgett broke the school record of 46 points scored by Rachel Bouchard in 1989. The Black Bears also set a school record for points in a game.

Maine shot 60 percent (18-for-30) in the first half in building a 48-26 lead at the break. Blodgett scored nine of the game's first 14 points as the Black Bears held the Tigers (11-17) without a field goal for the first 4 1/2 minutes. The Tigers' Trinette Tucker scored 18.
