Spring break

March 03, 1997|By Roch Eric Kubatko

What the Orioles did yesterday: They pounded out 17 hits in a 10-2 victory over the Montreal Expos at Fort Lauderdale Stadium. Earlier, they lost a seven-inning B game to the Expos, 6-4.

What the Orioles will do today: Play their fourth home exhibition game, against the Atlanta Braves. Jimmy Key will make his second start and closer Randy Myers will make his first appearance. In between, the Orioles will pitch Rule 5 draftee Mike Johnson, Archie Corbin, Esteban Yan and Terry Mathews.

You know it's spring training when: Orioles right-hander Francisco Saneaux throws an inning in the B game -- for the other team. With Montreal short of available pitchers, Saneaux stood on the mound in his black jersey amid a sea of Expos blue. Just another of the colorful stories to come out of spring training.
