Orzechowski promoted to CFO at Alcore

Alcore Inc. announced the selection of Richard Orzechowski as chief financial officer. Before joining the Belcamp-based subsidiary of Lunn Industries in 1995 as controller, he was a senior financial manager with Westinghouse Electric Corp., serving as controller in various domestic and international operations. He resides in Ellicott City.

Charles Schwab promotes Askew

Charles Schwab & Co. named Darryl Askew, of its Towson office, an investment specialist. He will advise and counsel small business and individual clients on retirement plans.

A business graduate of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, the Baltimore resident has been with the discount broker since 1994.

Banking and finance

Scaldara adds a title at Columbia Bank

The Columbia Bank has appointed John A. Scaldara executive vice president, in addition to his duties as chief financial officer and corporate secretary.

He will oversee internal administration, human resources and loan accounting functions of the bank, and supervise the day-to-day cash-management operation. A graduate of Loyola College, he is a certified public accountant and is active in professional and civic organizations.

First United National appoints Butler

First United National Bank & Trust named Margo J. Butler community office manager at its Bel Air office outside Cumberland.

A graduate of Potomac State College, Butler joined the Oakland-headquartered financial institution in 1992 as an executive secretary and later was appointed a community service officer.

Health care

HelixCare names chief financial officer

HelixCare, the physician-managed primary-care provider network of Lutherville-based Helix- Health, announced the appointment of Bruce H. Sturm as chief fi- Sturm nancial officer. Formerly chief operating officer of Preferred Health Network of Maryland, the Towson State University graduate is a resident of Pasadena and is active in several professional organizations. He serves on the boards of Maryland Health Fair Inc. and the Anne Arundel Trade Council.

Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz announced the appointments of Robin Goldberg Banks and Charles A. Borek as associates with the Towson-based law firm.

Banks will be assigned to the firm's estate and trust planning division.

A graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, the Owings Mills resident is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Maryland State Bar.

Borek, assigned to the tax and business law division, received an MBA as well as his law degree from the University of Baltimore. A Bel Air resident, he is active with the Alzheimer's Association of Central Maryland, serving as treasurer and member of the board.
