Syracuse rallies to beat Va., 22-21

Casey Powell had seven goals and six assists, including scoring the game-winner with 2: 34 left, as No. 3 Syracuse came back from a seven-goal deficit to defeat No. 2 Virginia, 22-21, last night before 10,960 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Orangemen (1-0), who lost to the Cavaliers by two goals in last year's season opener, ended the game on a 10-2 run, holding Virginia scoreless for the final 7: 20.

After four ties and two lead changes, the Cavaliers (0-1) went on a 10-3 run over an 11-minute span. Tucker Radebaugh's goal off an assist by Michael Watson with 6: 13 left in the third quarter put Virginia ahead 19-12.

No. 15 Notre Dame 9, Penn State 5: Alex Cade made 13 saves as Notre Dame (1-0) held host Penn State (0-1) scoreless for the final 2 1/2 quarters as the Fighting Irish came back to win.

The Nittany Lions had a 5-2 lead midway though the second quarter, but Notre Dame scored seven unanswered goals.
