Rising young flutist

CLASSICAL MUSIC

February 27, 1997|By Stephen Wigler

With its high-pitched vowels and piquant consonants, it's hard to think of a better name for a flutist than Marina Piccinini. And, as it happens, the name of this young Canadian always comes up in discussions about successors to the crown now worn by James Galway.

Baltimore music lovers will have the opportunity to judge for themselves next Tuesday when Piccinini will give a free public recital at Goucher College of works by Haydn, Franck, Torke, Godard and Takemitsu.

Marina Piccinini will give a free concert in Merrick Hall at Goucher College on Tuesday at 8 p.m. For tickets and information, call (410) 337-6333.
