Ward lifts Goucher past Gallaudet, into CAC semis Salisbury State eliminates St. Mary's with 110-78 win

Bakari Ward scored 16 points off the bench as top-seeded Goucher downed visiting Gallaudet, 66-50, in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Gophers (20-5) will play host to fourth-seeded York tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the semifinals.

After six ties and five lead changes, Goucher scored 11 unanswered points to open a 30-20 lead with 5: 10 to play in the first half. Ward (Arundel) scored six in a 16-4 run that gave the Gophers a 52-30 lead with 12 1/2 minutes left.

Goucher recorded its first 20-win season in the program's seven-year history. The Bison ended their season at 1-24.

Salisbury State 110, St. Mary's 78: John DeRichie scored 19 and Bill Lancaster added 18 points and 13 rebounds as second-seeded Salisbury State (21-4) ran past visiting St. Mary's (7-18) in a CAC first-round game. The Sea Gulls play host to third-seeded Mary Washington tomorrow at 7: 30 p.m. in the semifinals.
