Woman in critical condition after her pickup truck flips

A Severn woman was in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday with injuries suffered Monday when her truck spun out of control and rolled over twice on Clark Station Road in Severn, county police said.

Mandy Mae Anderson, 26, of the 1600 block of Shannon O Circle was southbound on Clark Station Road about 4: 30 p.m. in a 1986 Ford Ranger when she tried to turn left onto Burns Crossing Road and lost control. The truck began to spin counterclockwise, then flipped over, police said.

Anderson was thrown from the truck before it crashed into a tree on the side of Burns Crossing Road, police said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident should call police at 222-8610.

Car and van collide, injuring both drivers

A Nissan sports car crashed head-on into a Chevrolet van on Reece Road Monday, sending the drivers of both vehicles to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Derick Dean, 36, of the 8200 block of Severn Orchard Circle, Severn, the driver of the Nissan, was in serious condition yesterday. Charles Thomas Wilkes, 31, of the 600 block of Grain Court East in Millersville, the driver of the van, was treated, then transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he was in stable condition yesterday.

Police said Dean was northbound on Reece Road near Reece Heights Road about 10: 30 a.m. when his car crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with Wilkes' van.

The accident is under investigation, police said.
