Man charged in stabbing but not in death

February 17, 1997

A Pimlico man was arrested Friday on charges of stabbing a Winfield man who died the next day of natural causes, court and police records show.

Patrick McIntyre, 27, of Northwest Baltimore was being held on $10,000 bail at the Carroll County Detention Center pending a bail review hearing.

McIntyre faces charges of first- and second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and malicious destruction of a motor vehicle by throwing an object, reckless endangerment and use of a deadly weapon -- a screwdriver -- in the commission of a felony, court records show.

Terry L. Mabe, 32, was found dead by family members at his home in the 1700 block of W. Old Liberty Road the afternoon of Jan. 18.

A state medical examiner ruled that Mabe died of aortic stenosis, a fatal constriction or narrowing of the heart's main artery.

Mabe was assaulted at 2: 45 p.m. Jan. 17 on Johnsville Road in Eldersburg near the entrance to Freedom Swim Club, police said. A man threw a screwdriver, smashing the side window of Mabe's 1989 Buick, and stabbed him in the head and face with the tool, police said.
