Ellicott City man found stabbed near bowling alley

An Ellicott City man who was found lying in the parking lot of a bowling alley early Friday apparently was stabbed by an unknown assailant, Howard County police said.

Police said Christopher Kelly Kappe, 31, of the 8900 block of Town and Country Blvd. left the Normandy Brunswick Bowling Lanes on U.S. 40 in Ellicott City with several friends shortly after midnight and was found in the parking lot about 40 minutes later by a man whom police did not identify.

The man told police he thought the victim was intoxicated and took Kappe, who had just participated in a league tournament, back inside the bowling alley while another friend was called to pick him up, police said.

A police report said Kappe was driven to a nearby house, where it was discovered that he had been stabbed.

He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and admitted in critical condition.

Police said they are trying to determine the motive for the attack and are searching for the assailant.
