William P. Homans Jr.,75, a renowned civil rights lawyer and former Massachusetts state representative, died Feb. 7 in Phoenix.

He represented Dr. Benjamin Spock, whose conviction for conspiring to induce draft evasion during the Vietnam War was overturned on appeal. He won an acquittal for Pfc. Tyrone Peterson, charged with killing his sergeant during the Vietnam War.
