Balloon ascension to mark Black History Month

Oak Street African Methodist Episcopal Church, 123 W. 24th St., will celebrate Black History Month with a balloon ascension and service at 3: 30 p.m. Sunday.

The event celebrates the history of African-Americans and the church, which has served the Baltimore community for 100 years.

The church was founded in 1897 by Bishop James A. Handy, head of the Baltimore District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
