Edgewater man charged with assault in knife attack

County police arrested an Edgewater man Wednesday and && charged him with slashing another Edgewater man's face with a knife during a fight outside a Mayo convenience store.

Amos Dick Jones, 46, of the 300 block of Spruce Ave. was charged with first-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Bobby Allen Gambino, 41, of the 800 block of Mayo Road was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center for a severe cut across his nose and mouth and released.

Police said Gambino and another man were fighting outside Lou's Corner Stop in the 1200 block of Central Ave. shortly after 9: 30 p.m. when the man pulled a knife from his pocket and swung it at Gambino's face.

Gambino began bleeding and called police. The man left, and police broadcast his description.

Officer Frederick Paesch saw a man fitting the suspect's description a short time later walking down Shesley Road. Paesch tried to talk to him, but he continued walking, police said.

When Paesch told the man he was under arrest, he struggled with the officer until Paesch used pepper spray on him, police said.
