A Carroll County boy, who would have turned 4 years old today, died yesterday of injuries he suffered when he fell from a car that was rolling down the driveway of his family's home in Manchester, according to state police at the Westminster barracks.

According to police, Triston Paul Mercer was waiting for his parents to leave their house yesterday afternoon in the 2500 block of Bachman Valley Road, when he got into the front seat of the car and shifted it into neutral.

The 1977 Chevrolet rolled back- ward at least 100 feet down the driveway with the boy in the front seat, police said.

Triston fell out of an open door, which struck his head, police said.

The car came to a halt when it struck an electric transformer in the yard.

State police, Manchester volunteer firefighters and the Lineboro ambulance responded to a 1: 40 p.m. emergency call at Triston's home.

A state MedEvac helicopter flew him to the pediatric intensive care unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he died of his injuries at 6: 50 p.m., a hospital spokeswoman said.
