TWO IMPORTANT community meetings are coming up shortly.

Tomorrow, Take Back Our Streets Inc. of Linthicum will hold a general membership breakfast meeting at Michaels Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie. Contact Linda Harris at 222-6890.

Arundel Improvement Association will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at the AIA hall, 705 Cross St. Call 789-2192 for more information.

Ash Wednesday services

Ash Wednesday this week marks the start of the Lenten season, and events are planned at a number of area churches.

St. John Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Ave., will offer confession, the distribution of ashes and Holy Communion at 11 a.m. and again at 7: 15 p.m.

Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., will hold an Ash Wednesday service, beginning at 7 p.m.

The church's United Methodist Youth Fellowship is sponsoring a pancake supper from 6 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday). Donations would be appreciated.

Also of interest: Townsend Avenue Baptist Church, Fifth Street and Townsend Avenue, Brooklyn, sponsors Saturday Night Alive, informal gathering featuring Christian music, at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of every month. Refreshments are served, and a nursery is available. You can find out more by calling 355-0347.

Dance lessons

Dick Benjes of the Dancin' Cowpokes will teach country western line and partner dance lessons from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, beginning this week, at the Polish Home, 4416 Fairhaven Ave. The Polish Community Association is sponsoring the lessons, which will cost $5 a class. Benjes is a member of the Country Western Line Dance Association and the National Teachers Association of Country Western Dance. Information: Bernie Simon, 859-4433.

For young players

Sign up early for softball, baseball and T-ball.

Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association will accept registrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and from noon to 2 p.m. Sundays this month at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave. Boys and girls ages 5 to 16 may play. Registration is $40 for one child from a family, $60 for two and $10 for each additional child. A concession fee of $20 is also required. School open house

St. John's Christian Day School/Day Care, 226 Washburn Ave., will sponsor an open house from 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Wednesday for parents who want to enroll their children in the summer day camp program. The school offers classes for ages 3 grade six. Call 355-7296 for more information.

Valentine's party

Take your sweetheart to the Valentine's Day Party, sponsored by Roland Terrace Democratic Club from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at 619 Matthews Ave. Tickets are $6 in advance, $8 at the door. Call Virginia Uzialko at 789-2013 or the club at 636-1504 after 7 p.m. to reserve tickets.
