Athletics: Agreed to one-year, $3.3 million contract with OF Geronimo Berroa, avoiding arbitration and nearly tripling his 1996 deal.

Blue Jays: Agreed to contracts with P Mark Sievert, IF Tom Evans, IF Ryan Jones, IF Jeff Patzke and OF Anthony Sanders.

Cubs: Agreed to one-year contract with P Steve Trachsel worth reported $2.1 million, avoiding arbitration.

Mariners: Agreed to terms with OF Jay Buhner on $13 million, two-year extension through 1999 with club option for 2000.

Padres: Named former Orioles P Rick Sutcliffe to TV broadcast team.

Rangers: Invited following nonroster players to major-league camp: P Duane Ward, P Scott Bailes, P Eric Gunderson, P Tom Urbani, P Clint Davis, P R. A. Dickey, P Jonathan Johnson, C Scott Hemond, C Johnny Cardenas, IF Domingo Cedeno, IF Warren Morris, IF Tom O'Malley and OF Mike Simms. Named Lee Tunnell minor-league pitching coach. Two-time All-Star Jeff Russell (186 saves) retired at age 35.

Twins: Agreed to terms with the following players: P Dan Perkins, P Dan Serafini, C Jose Valentin, IF David Arias, IF Corey Koskie, IF Ryan Lane, IF Jamie Ogden, OF J. J. Johnson, OF Chris Latham and OF Ryan Radmanovich.

White Sox: Named Ken Williams VP of player development. Gave director of baseball operations Daniel Evans added title of assistant GM.

Yankees: Invited following nonroster players to major-league camp: P Eric Milton (Maryland), P Dale Polley, P Marcus Moore, P Carlos Reyes, P Mike Buddie, C Chris Ashby, C Jaime Torres, C Paul Russo and C Tom Wilson. NBA: Announced that Pistons G Joe Dumars will replace Heat C Alonzo Mourning (injured right heel) on Eastern Conference All-Star Game.

Rockets: Placed G Clyde Drexler (strained left hamstring) on injured list. Activated G Tracy Moore from injured list.

Bengals: Named Bob Wylie tight ends coach.

Broncos: All-Pro T Gary Zimmerman confirmed that he has retired.

Chiefs: Signed WR Michael Dritlein, OL Ron Florine and OL Wendall Gaines to two-year contracts. VP of player personnel Lynn Stiles will become VP of football operations for Rams.

Jets: Named Ravens pro personnel coordinator Scott Pioli pro personnel director. Named following assistants: Mike Sweatman, Charlie Weis, Maurice Carthon, Romeo Crennel, Al Groh and Ravens quality control assistant on offense Eric Mangini. Retained assistants Ron Erhardt, Pat Hodgson and Bill Muir.

Raiders: Did not retain receivers coach Mike Wilson. Transferred Fred Biletnikoff to receivers coach. Following assistants will return: Bishop Harris, Larry Kennan, Bill Meyers, Fred Whittingham, John Guy, Steve Shafer, Kevin Spencer, Rusty Tillman and Garrett Giemont.

Vikings: Named Mike Tice (Maryland) offensive line coach.
