Cycling Across Md. set to begin July 26 at Bowie State campus

The 1997 Cycle Across Maryland (CAM) will be staged in Central and Southern Maryland from July 26 to 31, starting at Bowie State University and ending in Largo.

Riders will begin on a Saturday and end on a Thursday for the first time. They will travel 50 miles a day and stop at LaPlata, Lusby, Harwood and Clarksville. Along the way, cyclists can hunt fossils at Calvert Cliffs and walk through a cypress swamp and part of the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge.

The CAM Corp. will give bike helmets to riders under age 16 who cannot afford them. Information about helmets, the tour, a June 7 in-line skating festival and a May 3 bike rally: 653-8288.
