Omar Knight's three victories and a solid performance from his deep and talented supporting cast helped top-ranked Perry Hall claim the boys title in yesterday's Class 4A-3A West Regional Championships at the 5th Regiment Armory.

No. 1 ranked Dulaney, powered by Meghan White's three first-place finishes, finished second in the girls team competition, bowing to Frederick, 70-45.

Knight won the boys 1,600-meter run (4: 34.3), the 800 (2: 02.3) and the high jump (6-0) while White claimed the gold in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Competing in a realigned region which lumped three Baltimore County schools -- Dulaney, Perry Hall and Woodlawn -- with 11 teams from Montgomery County and another from Frederick put off Perry Hall's meeting with co-No. 1 Mervo until the state meet.

Mervo will try to position itself for states today when it goes against has Anne Arundel County powers Meade, North county and Old Mill in the 4A-3A Central region meet.

"I miss the city and county teams meeting in the regions because all the teams get along real well together," said Perry Hall coach Jerry Martin, whose team rung up 92 points to runner-up Richard Montgomery's 70.

"I hope Mervo has the good fortune of getting everyone through like we did. Everyone knows the state meet is going to be a great meet. Nobody knows how it is going to come out and nobody is underestimating Meade."
