Two people were seriously injured in a two-car collision Monday on Route 97 near Route 32, south of Westminster, state police said.

Police said Pamela Bassett, 46, of Glenwood in Howard County, was traveling south on Route 97 about 6: 30 p.m. when a northbound Chevrolet pickup truck tried to make a left turn at Route 32.

Bassett was flown by helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was in serious and stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

A passenger in the other vehicle, Terry Lowe, 35, of the 800 block of Severn Court, Sykesville, was treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released, a spokeswoman said.

The driver, Mark Lowe, 21, of the 800 block of Severn Court, was not injured, police said. He was cited for failing to yield the right of way, police said.

Sykesville: Firefighters from Gamber assisted Sykesville at 2: 36 p.m. Monday, responding to a house fire in the 6200 block of Pinyon Court.
