Man charged in kidnapping, attempted sexual assault

Howard County police arrested a 28-year-old man in a North Laurel motel Saturday in connection with the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a 13-year-old Wheaton girl.

A man allegely drove the girl to the Valencia Motel in the 10100 block of U.S. 1 at 6: 20 p.m., telling her that he was going to get a room for himself to be used later that night, a police report said.

According to charging documents, the man invited the girl to the room to watch television but then tried to sexually assault her.

The girl ran from the room to the rental office, from which she called a friend who called police, a report said. While standing outside the motel, the girl said, the man took her back into his room against her will, police reported.

Officers arrived and responded to a loud scream from Room 120, where they found the girl on the bed and arrested the man, a report said.

Billy Roland Ford Jr. of the 12000 block of Center Hill St. in Wheaton was charged with kidnapping, third-degree sex offense, attempted rape in the first degree, false imprisonment and assault in the first degree.

Ford is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $200,000 bail.
