New positions

Curtis named associate to president at Villa Julie

Villa Julie College announced that Catherine A. Curtis has been named administrative associate to the president of the liberal arts college in Stevenson.

A native of West Virginia now residing in Westminster, Curtis earned her doctorate in rhetoric and composition from Ohio State University and has served on the faculties of Towson State University and the University of Houston. Steve Libowitz has been named director of news and information at the Johns Hopkins University. He will continue as editor of the university's official newspaper, The Gazette, as well.

Libowitz was formerly associate director of public affairs at the Francis Scott Key Medical Center (now Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center). He has a master's degree from Towson State University and is an adjunct faculty member at the Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.

Commercial, Farmers Bank makes two appointments

Commercial & Farmers Bank in Ellicott City has announced the appointments of Kevin Huffman to senior vice president and Mary Ellen Marsalek to assistant vice president and market manager.

Huffman, a University of Maryland graduate, will have responsibilities in business development, marketing, human resources and loan administration. A resident of Ellicott City, he was formerly with Elkridge National Bank.

Marsalek will be based at the bank's Columbia office and will oversee business development, commercial lending and branch operations at several locations. A graduate of Towson State University, she lives in Ellicott City.


HelixHealth appoints Bouton, Aburn

HelixHealth has appointed Janet Bouton as senior vice president, planning and marketing, and Vanessa D. Aburn as director of planning.

Bouton received her doctorate in public health from the Johns Hopkins University and was formerly vice president of planning. Before joining the Lutherville-headquartered health care system, she was director of planning for Good Samaritan Health System. She is also active with the Lupus Foundation at the state and national levels and serves on the boards of several community and charitable organizations.

Aburn, most recently director of marketing-managed care for Howard County Health Services, holds a master's degree from the Boston University School of Management. The Ellicott City resident serves on the board of the Family Life Center of Columbia.


McCrone names Schuman, Arocho to project posts

McCrone Inc., Annapolis-based engineers and environmental consultants, named Terry L. Schuman senior project manager and Nelson Arocho as a project engineer.

Schuman, an engineering graduate of the University of Buffalo assigned to the company's headquarters, is active in several professional organizations and resides in Annapolis.

Arocho, a resident of Waldorf, has a master's degree in transportation engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He will be responsible for project design and coordination in the Southern Maryland region and is assigned to the Prince Frederick office of the firm.
