A hat trick by Charlie Case paced two-time defending champion Navy to a 9-1 romp over Marquette yesterday in the 20th Crab Pot Ice Hockey Tournament at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Seeking their third consecutive Crab Pot title and eighth overall, the Mids will meet Buffalo, a 6-0 winner over Drexel in yesterday's other game.

Only Penn State (1985, '86 and '87) has won three straight years in the history of the Crab Pot.

The final for the black, 25-gallon crab pot is set for 3 p.m. today at Dahlgren Hall on the academy grounds with the consolation between Drexel and Marquette at noon. Admission is free.

Case was one of six Mids to score against Marquette. Navy led by 5-1 after the first two periods. Eric Sager found the net twice and single goals came from Jim Maher, Ed Sunberg, Joe Carney and Eric Sonnenberg.

The Mids outshot the Golden Eagles 35-24, with John Bruzza notching 19 saves for Navy and Steve Fortman four.
