The Entrepreneur's Exchangerecently selected Nancy S. Badertscher of the Business Hatchery as winner of its 1996 Entrepreneur of the Year award. Badertscher was co-founder and then executive director of the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce for three years. She was selected for her "contributions to the entrepreneurial spirit and help to entrepreneurs who have become successful."

Terry L. Schuman,an engineer, has been promoted to senior project manager at McCrone Inc.'s headquarters in Annapolis. He will oversee land development in Central Maryland. Schuman has more than nine years of civil engineering experience.

Eric Steel of Severna Park, a graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute and a Baltimore business owner, will be featured in the next issue of Tech-Times, a quarterly publication of the institute. Steel has become the first graduate of any of the member schools to be inducted into the Maryland Association of Private Career Schools' new Hall of Fame. Previously, the association limited awards to educators and administrators. Steel is president/owner of Prestige Automotive Inc. at 5820 Oakleaf Ave. in Baltimore, which provides commercial fleet service and is designated as a state inspection station. His other business, a used-car dealership, Steel Motor Cars Ltd., is at 5901 Oakleaf Ave. Of 11 employees, six are graduates of the institute.

Carl E. "Pete" Ruhl,general manager of the asphalt division of Reliable Contracting Co. Inc. of Millersville, has been elected president of the Maryland Asphalt Association for 1997. Ruhl began his career in the construction industry in 1952 as a laborer for IA Construction Corp., progressing through the managerial ranks. In 1974, he was named acting district manager of IA Construction in its Baltimore district. In 1976, he joined the Reliable Contracting Co. He has served on numerous committees of the Maryland and Pennsylvania asphalt associations.

Brooke Perkins is the new owner and manager of an independent Robert Thomas Securities office at 703 Giddings Ave. The announcement was made by J. Stephen Putman, president of Robert Thomas Securities Inc., a national investment firm which is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers and the Securities Investor Protection Corp. Robert Thomas Securities is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raymond James Financial Inc., a publicly traded company with shareholders equity in excess of $80 million and assets of nearly $1 billion.

Severn Bancorp Inc.,holding company for Severn Savings Bank FSB, has reported net income of $460,269, or 52 cents a share, for the three months ending Dec. 31. These earnings are a 43 percent increase over the same period in 1995, when the company earned $322,089 a share. Net income for the year ending Dec. 31, was $1,053,557 or $1.03 a share.
