Internet seminars offered by chamber

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce is planning three seminars on the Internet: Net 101 -- "baby steps" to getting online -- on May 6; Net 201 -- "undergrad" marketing, making money on the net -- on May 13; and Net 301 -- "graduate level" technical information.

All seminars will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the chamber office.

Internet professionals will be invited to join a focus group to design the content of the seminars. Information or to join the focus group: 730-4111.

AccuBanc acquires Signet Mortgage office

AccuBanc Mortgage Corp. has acquired the Columbia lending office of Signet Mortgage Corp., 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway, Suite 470.

David Meurer will continue as the office's manager, the company said. It is expected that the entire staff will be retained.

AccuBanc has acquired 24 offices in seven states from Signet, bringing its total to 100 offices in 24 states.

People

Charles M. Bell a former assistant attorney general, has opened a new office for the general practice of law at the Howard County Executive Center, Suite 215, 3300 N. Ridge Road, Ellicott City.

Shirley D. Collier, president of Paragon Computer Services and a graduate of Leadership Howard County, was recently honored at a gathering of Leadership graduates and recognized as a 1997 Distinguished Leadership Award recipient by the National Association for Community Leadership. Collier has created a program, "Computer Mania," to promote technology and science to young girls. She also helped create BEAM, a program designed to generate partnership between the business community and the Howard County school system's tech magnet program.
