Bush Brothers & Co., maker of the No. 1 brand of baked beans in the United States, has awarded its advertising account to Baltimore's W. B. Doner & Co.

The agency will plan and create ads for Bush's Baked Beans, the new Chili Magic line and other new products. Neither Bush nor Doner would disclose billings.

Cole Henderson Drake, an Atlanta ad agency, had held the company's advertising account for four years.

Ron Dix, Bush's senior vice president and director of marketing, said the company tapped Doner to handle its account because of Doner's track record with packaged goods and consumer advertising.

Bush Brothers, based in Knoxville, Tenn., was founded in 1908 as a small tomato cannery in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee.

The company's flagship brand, introduced in 1968, has enjoyed steady growth over 20 years.

After aggressive marketing in the early 1990s, the brand's market share more than doubled.

Doner, with estimated annual billings exceeding $575 million, also has offices in Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, London, Montreal, Tampa and Toronto.
