Elizabeth 'Bunny' Betts, 41, fought neighborhood crime

Elizabeth "Bunny" Betts, who was active in fighting crime in her Baltimore neighborhood, died at home Wednesday after a lengthy illness. She was 41.

The Reservoir Hill resident would disperse loiterers from street corners and counsel the young men who gathered there, friends and relatives said.

"She tried to make sure no one got in trouble and that the conditions didn't exist for trouble," said Myra Offer, a neighbor.

Ms. Betts graduated from Venable High School in the 1970s and worked as a barmaid at several city taverns. She enjoyed sewing and caring for her five grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 23.

Other survivors include a son, Gregory Cunningham of Baltimore; two daughters, Laphyliss Cunningham and Lagretta Cunningham, both of Baltimore; a brother, Wallace Betts of Valdosta, Ga.; four sisters, Susie Collins of Princess Anne County and Linda Betts, Carrie Long and Phyliss Long, all of Baltimore.

Donald Dean Garrish, 59, carpenter who built homes

Donald Dean Garrish, a carpenter who built custom homes, died of cancer Saturday at his home in Parkville. He was 59.

Born in Garrison, he took up carpentry as a young boy and was an apprentice to his father.

His memberships included Carpenters Local 101 and Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department. He also was in the National Guard.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Evans Funeral Chapel, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville.

Survivors include his wife, the former Leslie Myers; two sons, Dean P. Garrish of Rockville and Donald L. Garrish of Parkville; a stepdaughter, Dina M. Metallo of New Freedom, Pa.; a stepson, Steven M. Metallo of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Garrish Jr. of Baldwin; two sisters, Edna Ritchie of Owings Mills and Mary D'Addario of Millers; and four grandchildren.

Florence Fritze Geisselman, 100, homemaker

Florence Fritze Geisselman, who was 100 years old, died of unknown causes Monday at Knollwood Manor Nursing Home in Millersville.

The former Florence Fritze was born in Baltimore on March 4, 1896. In 1916, she married William Geisselman, who died in 1972.

Mrs. Geisselman, who was a homemaker and avid bingo player, belonged to many organizations, including the Evangelical Lutheran Church and Stoney Creek Democratic Club, both in Pasadena.

Services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. today at Gonce Funeral Home, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena.

Survivors include a daughter, Emma Rambo of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-granddaughters.

George Dewey List Jr., 77, Foreign Service officer

George Dewey List Jr., a retired Foreign Service officer, newspaper editor and former Baltimorean, died of emphysema Saturday at a hospital in St. Simons, Ga., where he lived. He was 77.

A linguist, he began his career with the State Department in the late 1940s and served as a political attache at diplomatic posts in Austria, Denmark and Germany.

He retired in 1974 and moved to Lake Pleasant, N.Y., where he edited the Hamilton County News during the 1980s.

The World War II Army lieutenant was born in Mount Washington and was a 1937 graduate of City College. He attended Blue Ridge College and the University of Virginia.

There are no services planned for Mr. List, who also had a home in Italy.

His marriage to the former Martha Stapp ended in divorce.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tania List; three sons, John List of Baltimore, Mark List of St. Augustine, Fla., and Rob List of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; a daughter, Kate List of Roland Park; a sister, Betty D'Agostino of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.

James E. Wall, 72, reading specialist

James E. Wall, a reading specialist in Baltimore public schools for 36 years, died of cancer Jan. 8 at St. Agnes Hospital. The Catonsville resident was 72.

The Baltimore native retired in 1987.

He graduated from Calvert Hall College in 1943 and served in the Navy during World War II. In 1950, he earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola College.

He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Catonsville, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered Jan. 13.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Hartman; three sons, Michael P. Wall of Catonsville, John P. Wall of Finksburg and Mark E. Wall of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Jean M. Escopolopio of Baltimore, Anita Wall Hopkins of Ocean Pines and Maureen Canada of Harrogate, England; and nine grandchildren.
