O's sign Kamieniecki to minor-league deal

January 23, 1997|By Jason LaCanfora

The Orioles signed pitcher Scott Kamieniecki to a minor-league contract yesterday and invited him to major-league camp.

Kamieniecki, 32, was in the New York Yankees' organization since he was selected in the 14th round of the 1986 draft. A right-hander, he reached the majors in 1991 and had his best season in 1993, when he went 10-7 in 20 starts and 10 relief appearances with a 4.08 ERA and two complete games.

Kamieniecki underwent surgery to remove chips from his right elbow after an injury-marred 1995 season, and pitched in seven games with the Yankees last year, going 1-2 with an 11.12 ERA. He was optioned to the minors on May 26 and did not pitch in the majors again.

Kamieniecki is the Orioles' 19th nonroster invitee to camp, and the 10th pitcher.
