Routine vehicle stop results in drug arrest
A routine motor vehicle stop in Glen Burnie on Wednesday led to the arrest of a local man on drug charges, county police said.
Guy Alton Calligan III, 49, of the 100 block of Oak Spring in Glen Burnie was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to display license tags, driving with a suspended license and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Officer Mark Fraser was in a cruiser at Route 648 and Furnace Branch Road shortly after midnight when he saw a 1968 Dodge Coronet with no front license tag.
Fraser followed the car, which made an abrupt left on Summit Avenue, police said. Fraser turned on his emergency lights and followed the car to a dirt driveway in the 100 block of Wendover Road, police said.
The car stopped, but when Fraser pulled in behind it, it began backing up, stopping a foot from the cruiser, police said. As the driver got out, a bag fell from his lap, and he appeared very nervous, police said.
The man told police he was nervous because he knew the rear tag didn't belong on the car. Police found that the car was unregistered and that the man's license had been suspended.
When the officer searched the man, he found a knife in his jacket and another in the waistband of his pants. The bag that fell from the man's lap contained a small digital scale, a bottle of grain alcohol, two bags of what later tested positive for cocaine, and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
The man was searched again and four small bags of what later tested positive for crack cocaine and $944 were found, police said. Officers seized the money on grounds it was proceeds from selling drugs, police said.

Police followed footprints through snow and found those same prints inside the homes of Terry L. Prodoehl and Marcy D. Drapalski.
Police said the thieves took a purse with $500 and gold jewelry and two coats from the Prodoehl home. A neighbor in the 100 block of Silverloch Court found the purse and coats on her front porch, police said.
A coat and a briefcase taken from the Drapalski home were found behind the house, police said.
