A Wayson's Corner man was injured Wednesday when the front end of his car was crushed by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer on Patuxent River Road in Davidsonville, county police said.

Richard Dearmond Philmon, 33, of the unit block of Wayson Mobile Home Park suffered injuries to his leg and hip. He was in surgery yesterday afternoon at Prince George's Trauma Center.

Police said Philmon was driving south on Patuxent River Road south of Route 214 about noon when he rounded a curve and crossed the double yellow line into the path of an empty northbound tractor trailer, police said.

The driver of the truck, Geraldo Rodriguez, 44, of Falls Church, Va., was unable to stop and his truck ran over the hood of the 1990 Chevy Cavalier, crushing it and tearing the front wheels off the truck, police said.

The Chevy spun 200 degrees counterclockwise and came to rest in the southbound lanes, police said. Philmon was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

His passenger, Theodore Walk Jr., 26, of the 200 block of Wayson Mobile Home Court suffered cuts but refused medical treatment, police said. Rodriguez was not injured.

The truck was inspected and did not have any safety violations, police said. The accident is under investigation, but police said Philmon's speed was a factor.
