Double exposure: peek-a-boo shirts for 2

January 02, 1997|By Elsa Klensch | Elsa Klensch,Los Angeles Times Syndicate

My boyfriend and I are having an argument about see-through shirts.

He says I should buy one to wear at home because they are very sexy.

I say, "I will if you will."

He's agreed, and now we are looking for the right one for him. Where will we find it (and could he wear it out to parties)?

See-through shirts for men are not as rare as you might think -- since they are a lot easier for men to wear.

In Italy, Tom Ford, the rising star who designs for Gucci, has four in his spring collection. All are black, and all are meant for evening wear.

Ford describes his customer as "international, urban and fashion aware." He sees him wearing see-through shirts with black jeans or tuxedo pants.

"They look good with either suede boots or brown leather sandals. As a finishing touch I add a leather and chain belt in black and gold."

Ford describes his silhouette as "clean, spare and very sexy," adding: "These clothes are not afraid to be sexual, but are still deeply masculine."

Incidentally, when you shop for your own see-through shirt, visit the lingerie department. There you'll find many bodysuits and camisoles designed to wear under it to make it less revealing for parties.
