CareMatrix Corp. of Needham, Mass., announced yesterday that it had signed a 15-year lease with Annapolitan Care Center Inc. for the Annapolitan, an assisted-living and long-term care facility in Annapolis.

CareMatrix will manage and operate the facility, which consists of a 60-unit assisted-living wing and a 24-bed section designed for seniors with early or mild Alzheimer's disease.

With management agreement for a facility being developed in San Francisco, the company said, it is gaining "253 beds in upper-income areas" that complement its growth plans.

"We are extremely pleased to have signed the above agreements for such premier facilities," said Robert M. Kaufman, president of CareMatrix.

CareMatrix operates 22 communities throughout the United States and has 34 communities in development, providing assisted-living, supportive independent living and specialized programs for people with Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to the Annapolitan in Maryland, CareMatrix operates a facility in Silver Spring and has one under development in Ellicott City.
