Library online

Did you know that you can check your library account or renew materials even when the library is closed?

By dialing 222-4444, you can access your account to renew items from any Touch-Tone phone.

You also have the option of setting your computer's modem to dial the library at 222-7100. This connection allows for renewals and access to your account as well as to the library's complete catalog.

The library will close at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve and remain closed for New Year's Day.

One worship service

St. John Lutheran Church will have only one worship service today (with no Sunday School) at 10 a.m.

After the service, a Christmas cookie reception will be held in the social hall. Everyone is asked to bring holiday treats to share.

The church is at 226 Washburn Ave.

Children's musical

Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., will have only one worship service today at 11 a.m. The youngsters will present a musical, "Baa, Baa Bethlehem."

Caring for children

For some parents, having a sick child means rearranging schedules and taking off work.

But hundreds of residents have turned to Harbor Hospital Center's Sick Child Day Care since it opened nearly seven years ago, and their problems are relieved. The service is open 7 a.m. until 5: 30 p.m. weekdays.

Child Life Specialist Lisa Bender keeps children busy with activities geared to each child. To receive registration materials, call 347-3243.

Thousands of teen-agers baby-sit on a regular basis, but how many of them are prepared for the responsibilities? The next Safe Sitter Course will be offered at the hospital's Gruehn Building, Room 502, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25.

This two-day course will provide baby sitters with hands-on instruction on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, administering first aid, danger identification and basic child-care skills.

Participants must be at least 13 years old, or within a month of their 13th birthday. The course fee is $40, and parents must give permission. The deadline for registration is Jan. 11. Call 347-2563 to register now.
