The Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association and the Harbor Court Hotel have received annual awards from Meetings & Conventions magazine.

The association, the nonprofit agency charged with luring tourists and conventions, won a "gold service" award.

That award is based on overall professionalism and helpfulness of staff, advice on hotels and site inspections, transportation planning assistance, guidance on local attractions and facilities and liaisons with local vendors and services.

Harbor Court, the luxury 203-room hotel that opened on Light Street a decade ago, became Maryland's only hotel to receive a "gold key."

That designation is based on a hotel's appeal to business travelers, measured by factor such as meeting staff, meeting rooms, guest services and food and beverage service.

The awards resulted from a poll of 76,000 meeting planners who book conventions and trade shows nationwide.

Meetings & Conventions, a glossy trade magazine, asked the meeting planners to evaluate convention bureaus, hotels and resorts worldwide.
