THEATER

December 26, 1996|By J. Wynn Rousuck

Keith Glover's "Thunder Knocking on the Door" -- a Center Stage co-production with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Dallas Theater Center -- is a play about the blues, love and family legacies.

Set in Bessemer, Ala., in 1966, this "blusical" incorporates classic blues songs into the tale of a shape-shifting trickster named Marrvel Thunder who challenges the twin offspring of the only guitar player ever to outplay him. The spirited direction is by Center Stage associate artist Marion McClinton, who ensures that this play about the blues will drive your blues away.

Show times in the Head Theater at Center Stage, 700 N. Calvert St., are 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 7: 30 p.m. most Sundays; matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays and most Saturdays and 1 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 15 and Jan. 22. It runs through Jan. 26. Tickets are $24-$29. Call (410) 481-6500.
