December 24, 1996

Vandals broke into Francis Scott Key High School during the weekend and set fire to carpeting and bookshelves, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage, state fire marshals said yesterday.

A custodian discovered the damage at 12: 50 p.m. in the school in the 3800 block of Bark Hill Road in Union Bridge, fire marshals said.

Vandals forced open a window to gain access to the building, according to authorities.
