A Pasadena man was arrested yesterday and charged in the assault and attempted robbery of a Pizza Boli's manager who was beaten in the face by a man wielding a chair, police said.

William Charlie Griffin, 38, of the 200 block of Meadow Road was being held last night pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

Police said the assault occurred about 3: 25 p.m. Friday when a man went into the Pizza Boli's shop in the 1300 block of Blair Road in Odenton and said, "Give me my money or I'll take it," a police report said.

The man walked behind the counter to the cash register but the manager stepped in front of him. The manager was thrown to the ground and beaten with a chair, suffering injuries that were later treated at North Arundel Hospital, police said. No money was taken, they said.

The man fled after other employees in the store heard the commotion and came to the manager's aid, police said.
