25 years ago (week of Dec. 26, 1971-Jan. 1, 1972):

Carol Leigh Cline of Ellicott City, a senior at the Samuel Ready School in Baltimore, was chosen as a Maryland delegate to the 10th annual U.S. Senate Youth program.

A Howard County chapter of Ducks Unlimited was created this week. Officers were elected at a luncheon meeting, and a membership drive was initiated, with a goal of 200 members countywide.

50 years ago (week of Dec. 22-28, 1946):

Howard County Commissioner Charles E. Miller presented a gift of $5,000 to the county. The money was used to purchase property behind the Main Street Post Office in Ellicott City, for the purpose of providing a public parking lot.

The Kiwanis Club entertained 68 area children at a Christmas party held at the Ellicott Theatre in Ellicott City. The children enjoyed refreshments and gifts, as well as a movie.
