A concrete products company that has operated in Howard County for 23 years has completed construction of a 44,000-square-foot facility in Jessup, adding 22 new manufacturing jobs for the county.

Concrete Pipe & Products Co., which has its headquarters in Richmond, Va., manufactures and supplies concrete pipe to highway and development contractors in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

The new facility, which began operation Wednesday, will produce precast manhole structures, rectangular pipes used in road construction and other pipe products.

The $4.7 million construction project was funded largely by a $4 million industrial revenue bond approved by the County Council in August 1995.

The 22 jobs created by construction of the new building will bring Concrete Pipe's Jessup work force to 87. Some employees will continue working in the firm's existing 25,000-square-foot facility, while others will be transferred to the new building.
