25 years ago (week of Dec. 12-18, 1971):

Howard Research and Development Corp. offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for a rash of suspicious fires in the Columbia area.

50 years ago (week of Dec. 8-14, 1946):

Howard County Police Chief Charles Lotz brought charges against Police Officer Robert Cole, accusing him of misconduct in the line of duty. Officer Cole denied the charges, and filed counter-charges against Chief Lotz. The County Commissioners resolved the situation by demanding the resignations of both Lotz and Cole.
