1993 Hickory Ridge Merlot ($5).

Looking for a cheap merlot that won't pollute your palate? This polyglot production (grown in what's left of Yugoslavia, bottled in France and given an American-sounding name) is a respectable, basic red wine that is well-suited for sloshing down hamburgers. There's nothing exceptional about it except that half the wineries in existence seem to be selling the same quality of merlot for $15 or more.
