O'Conor, Piper acquires Mount Airy realty

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn Realtors announced that it has acquired Grimes & Associates Realty, an independent real estate company based in Mount Airy.

"We are excited about the addition of the Mount Airy office and the link it provides between our Western Maryland offices and those in Howard County," said James P. O'Conor, chairman and chief executive officer.

Grimes, formed in 1976 with a team of nine sales associates, was sold in 1981 to Charles Condon and Beverly Hames. "They will continue in their present roles to support the Grimes team through the ownership transition," O'Conor said.

Century 21 Diana Realty Inc. said Steve Kuzma won a third-quarter Gold Award for earning $62,000 in commissions during the three-month period. Kuzma also received the Commercial Investment Award for the Greater Maryland region. Claudia Sconion and Barbara Aiken won Silver Awards. Sales achievement awards also went to Denise Diana, Irene Tang, Dave Stromberg, Nancy Berger and Christopher Sigmon. Diana Realty won the Gold Club Office Award and the Listing Superstar Award.

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. announced the top producers for sales and listings for October in various offices.

The Appraisal Institute, Maryland chapter, recently installed David Brooks of Lipman, Frizzell & Mitchell as president for 1997. Other new officers include Richard Nichols, Richard Nichols & Associates, vice president; Sharon Cremen, Cremen Appraisal Agency, secretary; and Bud McPherson, McPherson & Associates Inc., treasurer.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn Realtors reports sales associate Gail Henze sold $1 million worth of houses in a one-month period. Henze has spent her nine-year real estate career with the firm. She holds the Graduate Realtor Institute and Certified Residential Specialist designations from the National Association of Realtors.

RE/MAX Preferred recently opened at 9 Schilling Road in Hunt Valley. The broker/owner is Doug Poole. He has a master's degree in liberal studies from Towson State University and is a director of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors.

On the move

Century 21 Joan Ryder said Bob and Debbie Cox and Dorothy Hicks have joined the Harford County firm as sales associates. Debbie Cox and Hicks hold the Graduate Realtor Institute and Certified Residential Specialist designations from the National Association of Realtors. Bob Cox has the GRI.

Century 21 Volke Realty appointed Betty Minton vice president of sales development for the Pasadena firm. Minton has a business management degree from Boston College. She also holds the Graduate Realtor Institute designation from the NAR. Minton has completed the VIP Sales Associate and VIP Relocation Director certification.

Columbia National Mortgage Corp. said Steve Stankiewicz joined its Towson office as senior loan officer. He comes to Columbia from Loyola Federal Savings Bank, where he was named the 1993 mortgage representative of the year.

Community Realty Co. Inc. announced the promotions of three to vice presidents for the Greenbelt firm. They are Michael T. Federici, residential property management; James R. Teller, marketing; and Dennis D. Burke, commercial leasing and sales.

Keystone Homes said Don Sample joined the Bel Air company as senior vice president and chief operating officer. He comes to Keystone from SBS Homes. Sample is a member and former president of the Harford County chapter of the Home Builders Association of Maryland.

Lipman, Frizzell & Mitchell LLC said Calvin V. Thomas Jr., a member of the Appraisal Institute, joined the company as an associate in its Silver Spring office. Thomas has a degree in economics from the University of Maryland, and more than 20 years of appraisal and management experience.

Gilbert D. Marsiglia & Co. said Charles C. Hinkel joined the Lutherville firm as a sales associate. Hinkel is a member of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors, the Maryland Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Nottingham Properties Inc. promoted John N. Bowers Jr. to RTC assistant vice president of the Baltimore property management and development firm. Bowers has been with Nottingham for 11 years.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn Realtors said Nancy Rothwell Simpers has joined the Aberdeen office as a sales associate. Simpers is president of the Cecil County Board of Realtors, where she was named Realtor of the Year in 1994 and 1996. She is also treasurer of the Maryland Association of Realtors.

Regency Homes of Annapolis named Robert M. Lefenfeld director of research and marketing. Lefenfeld previously was principal of Lefenfeld Associates, a real estate market research firm, and senior vice president at Baltimore-based Legg Mason Realty Group Inc.
