Chamber's 'Midnight Madness' begins adventure for holidays

NEIGHBORS

THE NEXT THREE DAYS are filled with holiday magic.

Tomorrow night, it's the shopping adventure of the season. The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce calls it Midnight Madness, although I expect to be deep into my "long winter's nap" by that hour.

However, from 6 p.m. to 9: 30 p.m., shoppers in Park Plaza and Severna Park Village will think they've become part of a colorized version of "It's a Wonderful Life."

Thanks to the efforts of the chamber, shoppers will be able to wish each other "happy holidays" as they stroll from store to store in the company of clowns, Santa Bear and Frosty the Snowman.

Children will gather for photographs with Santa Claus from 6 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. in the store next door to the Cosmetic Center.

Mrs. Claus and a story-telling clown will join Santa from 6 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m.

Free gift wrapping (near Santa's spot in Park Plaza) will be done from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for any purchase made that night. Shoppers must show a receipt from a participating store.

Severna Park Women's Aglow, a nondenominational Christian club, is in charge of the tissues and bows.

Entertainment will be provided by Severna Park High School Band and the school's dance team, Annapolis Area Christian High School Vocal Ensemble, Cruisin' Quartet-Sons of the Severn, Joint Venture Quarter-Sweet Adelines, Crabtown Clowns and the Beauty Shop Quartet.

Linda Zahn and the chamber have outdone themselves. Thanks go to the Park Plaza Merchants Association, NationsBank, Crestar Bank, First Union Bank of Maryland, Farmers Bank of Maryland and Annapolis Bank & Trust.

Oil change for donation

This Saturday and next, take your car to Millersville Master Motor Works at 403 Headquarters Drive and get a free oil change for a $10 donation.

The money will go to Hospice of the Chesapeake, Central Anne Arundel County Kiwanis Club or the county chapter of the Special Olympics.

No appointment is necessary.

Community choir concert

And finally, don't forget the Anne Arundel Community College Orchestra and Concert Choir, which will present a holiday helping of opera overtures, solos and choruses at 4 p.m. Sunday.
