Hopkins downs Brandeis, 78-55 Blue Jays are 28 of 31 on free throws in 2nd half

Senior center Matt Gorman scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Johns Hopkins rolled over Brandeis University, 78-55, yesterday in a University Athletic Association game at the White Center.

The Blue Jays (4-2, 1-1) held a 29-23 lead over the Judges (2-3, 0-2) at halftime and opened the second half with a 9-2 run. Johns Hopkins sealed the win by making 28 of 31 free throws in the second half.

Goucher 75, Christopher Newport 70: The host Gophers (4-2) used a 12-3 run midway through the second half in a comeback win over the Captains (4-2).

Predrag Durkovic scored 19 for Goucher.

Women

Hampton 60, UMBC 59: Danielle Dawson's running jumper with 4.4 seconds remaining lifted Hampton to the championship of the Iona Classic in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Monica Logan led UMBC (2-3) with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Johns Hopkins 70, Brandeis 46: Junior guard Angie Arnold scored 20 and had nine assists, and the host Blue Jays (5-1, 1-1) overpowered the Judges (3-2, 1-1) in a University Athletic Association game. Julie Anderson scored 16 for the Blue Jays.
